The Maricopa County Sports Commission changed its name and will unveil its new Web site, logo and advisory board later this month.
The organization, now known as the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission, is rebranding to boost its national presence and revenue stream.
"People don't know where Maricopa (County) is. Now, we're instantly recognizable for the marketplace." said PRSC Executive Director Michael Benson. "It gives us our own brand identity."
The PRSC Web site, http://www.phxsports.org/, will go live March 29 to coincide with the logo and name change.
Phase one of the site will focus on providing more information to program organizers who want to bring events to the Valley, as well as existing event leaders looking for greater promotion.
The site also will provide a marketing outlet for individuals and corporations while providing information on Valley sports venues, teams, travel and event planning.
"The Valley is one of world's leading destinations for sporting events," Benson said. "It's our goal to continue supporting and improving the great events that already call the Phoenix area home."
The PRSC, established in 1989 by the Arizona Legislature as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, represents the residents of Avondale, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise, Tempe and Tolleson.
The commission's goal is to bring national and international events to the Valley, assist in promoting existing events and teams, and support youth sports.
The organization uses its resources to assist with bid development, event management, event site selection, public and media relations, sponsorship sales, volunteer recruitment and destination management.
PRSC has been involved with P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, the NCAA Hall of Fame Challenge, the Women's Only Open Golf Tournament, the Senior Softball World Championships and next year's Super Bowl XLII.
